Default Trans not shifting out of secound

My 98 4x4 127xxx miles trans fluid changed about 6,xxx miles ago. I had just started driving the other day after being in the woods driving real slow and my trans would only shift into 1st and 2nd i think overdrive also. Im not sure trans filter has not been replaced that i know of.

my old truck did this, i was in the woods gettin on it pretty good, and when I hit pavement, i realized i had nothing higher than 2nd. eventually it worked itself out for me, but everyone kept telling me that the bands/clutches were fried. My 3rd gear band wasnt engauging, so it wouldnt let go of 2nd. Then i was driving down a local street and SUDDENLY 3rd gear... Hope yours works out for you, i know how nerve racking it can be.

i mean i feel like the trans trys to i think it might be the filter or valve body. The truck almost boggs a little some times when going into a high RPM secound so maybe the filter is clogged

first thing i would check is the fluid level. many transmission problems are caused from just a low fluid level. my dads 87 bronco had these exact same symptoms and it turned out to be just low on fluid. after that, check the filter.

Hopefully its just a bad shift solenoid but sounds more like a gear problem. Go get a couple of guestaments at local tranny shops.

Hey guys, im having the same problem with my 98 4x4 it has a little under 200xxx kilometers. It shifts through gears 1 and 2 fine but it wont shift into 3rd. This happened after hitting some puddles tranny fluids fine cherry red and still smells chemical and i checked underneath for an eletrical problem but when i pulled the plugs (otherthan overdrive because i think its keyed) they where all dry?? I checked the fluid in my transfer case and it was also overfull. Its never done this before and its my DD please help.
Also this is kind of off topic but does anyone know how to change the back window? Its 3 panels with the non power slide in the middle. Is it all one unit or can i just change the panel that i broke? Acidently put the quad through it yesterday :/
