Default Ticking noise while idle and driving 2004 F150

I have read several posts on the common ticking noise everyone is having. I wanted to post my personal issue and see if anyone could help narrow it down at all. When I start my truck there is a louder than normal tick sound. When I rev the rpm the tick gets faster too. Also, when I driving down the highway at a slow speed with the windows down I can still faintly hear the tick and it makes the noise regardless of which gear I have it in. The noise doesn't seem to lean towards one side I can hear it at about the same noise level on either side of the truck. I don't think I'm forgetting anything I will try to post a quick clip later any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you JD

Hey buddy, I'm no expert or anything because I just joined this forum not to long ago, but the motor in your 2004 Ford is probably the 3Valve 8 cylinder. These engines are known to have a camshaft phaser problem. One of the first trucks I test drove was a 2004 with this issue, a ticking sound in the motor. I bought an older model to stay away from this model. Good luck.

Not enough info to say for sure. There are a few issues that cause a ticking noise. The phasers are often misdiagnosed when another part is the true culprit.

Phase solenoids
Exhaust manifold leak
Phasers themselves

Please edit you post and make a link for the video. Too much info to copy and paste on a mobile device.

When I got home last night I noticed that I could no longer hear the sound. I added a bottle of Lucas to the oil and let it cycle through. Maybe I have a sticking lifter? I don't think it would be the exhaust leak since it comes and goes.

Because it comes and goes could definitely be an exhaust leak. Inspect manifolds for broken studs, warped, etc. If the sound is lesser when the truck is warmed up, it may be leaking manifold (ford known for this!).
