Tailgate lock replacement 2010 F150
The back lock on my F150 is not working and the dealership quoted $300 to replace it. I'm not sure if it's just stuck or completely broken or what. It's been almost a year it's been like this.
Is there a guide to replacing this lock? Where can I find the part?
Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

I need to wait until it gets a little warmer to work on it, although I know it's not frozen or related to winter because it broke in the summer and was broken during warm weather too.
Thanks for the link. I'm going to look into the problem and if necessary order the part.

Tailgate Release Handle
NOTE: When a new lock cylinder is installed, the tailgate lock cylinder, door lock cylinders and the ignition lock cylinder should be installed as a set. This eliminates carrying an extra key which fits only 1 lock. If a new key is to be used, the new key code is attached to a tag.
Removal and Installation
Removal and Installation
- If equipped, remove the tailgate step assist handle.
- Remove the bolts and the tailgate access panel (7 bolts for flareside bed, 8 for without step tailgate, or 13 with step tailgate).
- To install, tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).

- Remove the 2 tailgate release handle nuts.
- To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).
- To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).
- Remove the tailgate release handle.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Carrying two keys wouldn't be the end of the world, but the link I was provided to the locksmith will match the lock to my current key for an extra $9. That's what I will be doing instead of replacing all the locks.
Much more affordable and I won't need to take apart all the doors and ignition.
Even if I had to do 2 keys I wouldn't mind too much. I only lock it every once and a while when I'm carrying expensive things so I could live with it if I had to.
Thank you for the installation steps by the way!
