Default Fwiw:

I use synthetic lubes in the engine, tranny and differential. Both my vehicles have the same engine/tran combo: 4.6L/AODE/4R70W. I use Wal-Mart Supertech 10W30 full synthetic in the engines, Chrysler ATF+4 in both trannies and the differentials are loaded with Valvoline 75W140 GL6.

As far as oils are concerned any good grade/brand of API SM classification will give long engine life, either synthetic or natural, as long as service intervals are reasonable. I do the 3K/6month routine. Motorcraft filters are the only ones allowed in my car and truck.

The Supertech oil is ideal for older engines since it has a seal conditioner built in to the additive package. It has improved oil consumption in my '94 LTC considerably.

The trannies love ATF+4. The old AODE (161K miles) performs flawlessly with firm but smooth shifts and not a hint of TC clutch shudder. The 4R70W (125K miles) had been loaded with Mercon/Dexron III, but the shifts were rather harsh, particularly the 1-2 shift. Switching to ATF+4 has substantially improved shift quality, firm but smooth and, again, no hint of TC clutch shudder.

haha for my 98 I love it and I still use Supertech High Mileage for 12.00 bucks its some good stuff . But I due stick to Motorcraft filters and there always cheaper than fram . I have high miles but if i ever rebuild my engine I will stick to Fully Synthetic. But when using Supertech I always make sure I change at 3,000 miles or 3 months.

I'm using Royal Purple 5w30. I switched from Mobil 1 three oil changes ago. I've run synthetic since 3000 miles w/ no problems. I love the Royal Purple. It just feels like it pulls stronger. IMHO

I noticed recently that Wal-Mart's Supertech full synthetic does not anymore have a seal conditioner listed in the addivitive package. Wally might have switched suppliers and the product, though good, does not have what I want for my old vehicles. So, from this point on, my vehicles will get Mobil 1 High Mileage full synthetic that DOES have a seal conditioner listed in the additive package.

I too use full synthetic Royal Purple and have never had a problem. I know a mechanic in a ford dealership and he says to ALWAYS use motorcraft oil filters something about back pressure that the other guys dont have so that shat I use and Im sticking to it. Use whatever you feel comfortable with after all its your truck and as long as your happy thats all that matters

Synth is expensive, save your $$$, put in Castrol GTX and change it every 3000 miles. I still had hone marks in the cylinder walls at 140000....
