It was supposed to have Limited Slip
I have a 2005 F-150 with 4.2 V6 that I bought used a year ago. The new vehicle window sticker and the data on the door says it has a 3.73 8.8 LS differential. I discovered that it was not working as it should, so I removed the cover and to my surprise, it is not a LS diff. Apparently someone changed the carrier to a conventional rear. Is there anything besides the carrier that I need to convert this back to LS?

What did the manufacturers tag bolted to the rear end diff. cover say? LSD spyder gears look very similar to standard gears. I would suspect the rear end was serviced w/o adding friction modifiers to the gear oil. This will make the vehicle act like it doesn't have LSD.

Someone must have replaced the rear axle assembly. I'm almost positive you can replace just the chunk assembly with a LS one but the tools and skill set required are not exactly DIY. Would be cheaper and easier to get an entire rear end from a salvage yard. That can be swapped out in less than a day with minimal tools and a basic mechanical aptitude.

I have written to the original owner to see what he will tell me. I could see the rear cover was off before. I plan on getting the LS carrier "chunk" and having an expert set everything up for me.

My fellow is retired and charges about $125 for the job to change it out.
I can get a carrier at a U-pull-it yard for about $60 + about $120 for a clutch kit.

I don't think I would be willing to spend that much money to have LS. If I had that much to spend it would include a better LS than the Ford LS.
