Default Spark Plugs for a 1990 with a 351

Hey guys, couple quick questions!

I'm looking at purchasing some new plugs, wires, and distributor cap for my truck. Now, a buddy of mine said some of the guys at the performance shop around here told him that plugs that burn colder are better the the hotter plugs because the fuel thats currently produced these days isnt what it used to be. Is this a fact or no...?

Thanks in advance!

I've always ran what the spec calls for with no issues, so far.

Not aware of any significant changes with fuel - it still is supposed to meet the minimum octane levels posted on the pumps.
