Try to short the solenoid with a wrench with ignition on - if it will engage the starter, the problem is in the solenoid itself or rusty/dirty solenoid terminals.

Default Yes - short the solenoid terminals

Yes, yes, yes!!! Fast Hampster is correct.

Even though this thread is old I just wanted to make sure people doing a search don't waste tons of time without doing the above super easy check.

It couldn't be a simpler test and if it does start by shorting the solenoid terminals a new solenoid is a cheap and easy fix.

Default Starting issue

I have been having the same issue. I have conducted a few test to eliminate the problems.

1. Battery voltage is good while the vehicle is not running

2. voltage on the battery while vehicle is running is good.

3. On fender solenoid I jumper two terminals together to engage the starter. This work fine with out any hiccups.

Now I am lost because the truck starts fine sometimes and other time I just get a hard click on the fender solenoid. I am not sure if it's a starter relay, the starter itself or a bad solenoid (fender or starter)

I really don't want to start replacing a stuff with out properly finding the issue.

My truck is a 95 300/6 5 speed
