Default Simple (I hope) Question about a fuel pump

I have a 98 F-150 that needs a new fuel pump. My question is, can just the pump be replaced or must the entire assembly (which includes the sending unit) be replaced?

Is it more difficult to replace just the pump?

Thanks in advance.

You CAN replace just the pump, but you're there, you've dropped the tank, why not replace the whole assembly?

If you replace the whole assembly, you're replacing the fuel lines internal to the tank, and don't run the risk of screwing something up while you're trying to disassemble the old assembly to put a new pump in.

Much less aggravation to just replace the whole thing.
