Shudder in Low RPM OD
#11
Sounds like you are describing the current issue I am having with my 2006 F-150 with 120k. lol. Exactly.... Does your check engine light come on? Mine doesnt, which I think seems odd if its misfiring...It also seems to be worse when I dont have my K&N air filter clean, or when I have a stock filter in. Which again seems odd. Anyone know why those would impact whether it misfires due to spark plugs going bad? or coils?...
No I don't have any engine lights on. Others on the forum (many) have had the same situation. I'm going to change my plugs in the next week or 2. Then have a diagnostic check if that doesn't clear it up to see if there is a COP going out.
A diagnostics should tell you if a COP is going bad.
Good luck

So I changed my plugs yesterday. The passenger sides came off easily following instructions from here and the Ford TSB. I was excited and jumped on the driver side thinking this is going to be a breeze. Don't ever think like this.
The first 2 on the driver side broke. So I cracked the last 2 a little more and put more carb cleaner in them and let them soak longer as I extracted the broken ones. Got the broke ones out and really took my time getting the last 2 out. I worked them back and forth as I would back out an 1/8 of a turn or less at a time. Probably went back and forth 10 times to inch up to a 1/2 a turn.
In the end I broke 2 out of 8. Not so bad.
Anyway, this fixed the shudder problem. I really had a hard time that spark plugs would cause this sort of shuddering at low rpms in OD and that the cause was a miss. However, at hard accel I could hear the miss so I convinced myself that this could actually be the problem.
Well looking at the gaps in the old plugs, I can definitely see why it was missing. Wow!
It runs like a new truck now and no shuddering at all. I wouldn't have known this without this forum. So thank you F150 Forum and everybody out there helping us fix these issues.
Now I have to change the plugs in my wife's expedition.
