Default Shaking while braking

I have a 2003 F 150 super crew 4.6. While braking the truck shakes or shudders. What would cause this problem? It's not a bad shake, but it's enough to notice.

rotors are prolly warped, if you have alot of miles its time to change them. you can get them turned at like oreilys or something but you are taking more metal away which would cause them to warp quicker. i just replace them, and thats just my opinion.

I have over 135,000 miles and the rotors have never been replaced. Are they hard to change out? I'm not a mechanic but I can learn and I like to repair my own autos.

i doubt your rotors lasted that long .. unless you the original owner and have had them turned a couple times.. either way its time for new ones.. very easy job.. just don't buy cheap parts when it comes to your brakes

Yep I am the original owner. The rotors have never given me any problems until now. It has been a great vehicle over the years.

How long do rotors typically last? I have a 2013 F150 with 20,000 miles on it. I've been having this shaking problem when putting on the brakes. I am wondering if my local dealer will fix under warranty.

It's really hard to say how long they last...I've had rotors need replaced in 20k, but on the flip side to that I put new brakes on my wife's Jeep at about 70k and she's approaching 120 and they're just now starting to shimmy upon braking.

I doubt the dealer will warranty them...brakes are considered a "wear item" and can and do wear out based upon the driving characteristics of the person behind the wheel...in other words rotors becoming warped aren't a defect of the rotor...it's just a general side effect of what happens when they wear down.

The truck has new brake pads and front rotors. The shuddering has stopped for the time being. I'm going to consider this job finished until the next thing comes up. Thank y'all for your help.

In case you didn't do it/get it done when you changed the pads & rotors, it is a good idea to go ahead and bleed the brake system and get some new fluid in there. I tend to do it any time I'm fiddling with the brakes or suspension on a car since I have the tires off anyways (or every 2 years/30k miles). It will help firm up the pedal and you'll enjoy those new brakes even more. That's pretty impressive that you were able to drive sensibly enough over the life of the truck to make rotors last that long.
