my 01 volvo was claimed to be the same...
everywhere I read, apart from the manual, said to do it at 125k. Put some Mercon LV in it, new owners haven't had an issue yet and it's approaching 175k. And to add some extra wear into the equation, I had nearly 600lbs of audio gear and tools loaded down in that car for close to 15k miles, after the fluid change...
We did the minor change(4ish qts), ran it for 2k miles, then changed and flushed it. Full flush and change was close to 12qts I think.
Moral of this story, ain't going to hurt anything. And 6r80's are pretty cheap to get second hand.
