PLEASE HELP ME! Need new TRANSMISSION!*****!!**
hello I have a 2000 5.4 triton 4x4 XLT automatic with 86,000 miles... And it won't shift from 2ed to 3rd... When it tries to shift it just revs up really high without accelerating. I checked the trans fluid and it was red and smelt fine. Dident see any metal shavings so I wasent worried I thought it was the clutch so I brought it to the shop in 2ed gear going 30 the whole way... Anyways they called me and said the the trans was done for so I'm wondering how hard is it to make this truck stick? What would I need? And would it be ALOT more to do a swap? My local shop told me 2,200 for a used trans with 130,000 miles(with labor)? Thank you!

Sorry to hear that. I just bought a 2000 5.4 triton 4x4 XLT automatic with a bad motor. I bought the truck for the bed and tailgate. The previous owner just had a transmission put in with 140,000 miles on it. How many man hours does it take to remove the transmission? I don't know if I'm going to part out this truck, or replace the motor. How much do these transmissions go for? (To the OP, maybe we could make a deal).

Shop around. $2200 should be a complete rebuild/ like new with a 12,000 warranty. A manual conversion would be a lot more money + the labor for the conversion of the linkages, pedal, safety switches is extensive.
