x2 on the screwdriver through the filter. and the do make a "socket" that fits over the end of the filter to take it off, i got one but never use it, likes to slip off.

never seen the K&N with the nut on the end...good idea.

i use one of these strap wrenches with a couple extensions. works like a charm.
