oil change routine I'm happy with
Every oil change, computer said 60% remaining.
2013 5.0, full synthetic.
Oil filter is a real pain on this engine, makes a mess.
I now change oil every 5k like always, and wait until the computer tells me to change oil, I change the filter.
I used to hate the 5k oil change, now its a breeze :-)

I just had the dealer service mine , as I was not able to, due to a recent knee replacement. This next one I will do myself and install a Fram Ultra or Mobile 1 EP filter and then change it every other time also. I am a member over at ''Bobistheoilguy'' and this is quite common with the members there.

I'm confused.
If this is as simple as change oil every 5,000 miles, and filter every other time, why don't you simply set the level to 60% when you do each change? People don't see that you can reset to 100%, 90%, 80%, ...?

I just assumed that the ford computer , saying I had 65% oil life left, at 5k, means I'm changing oil twice as often as necessary, so the filter should be no problem for another 5k.

If you drive 5,000 miles, and the computer says 65% left, then if you do the math it's going to trip at around 14,000, assuming nothing changes. More likely it will trip closer to 10,000.
But you miss my point. Instead of tracking to change something at 5,000 miles, if you know the math, simply set the alert for that level.
In this instance, set it at 40% after you do a change. Roughly 5,000 miles (based on what you stated as 65%), it will trip and tell you it's time for a change. Change oil, or oil and filter (whatever is up), and then set it again for 40%.
