Default Oil change

Hello, just purchased a 2013 f-150 xlt last week. Dealer said oil was changed and they used a "semi-synthetic oil". Should I stick with this type of oil when doing oil changes or use regular non synth oil?

Use whatever you want. Just keep up on the change interval for the type you choose.

If you read your manual, you will see the recommended oil for your engine. Non-synthetic is not on that list. It's on page 399. Manual is online at the Ford site if you don't have one.

For both the 3.7 and 5 liter engines, Ford recommends either synthetic or synthetic blend (in the US). 5W-20. For the 3.5 liter EB, they recommend the same types but 5W-30.

Thank you. I don't have a manual yet but I did order one from ebay. I'll stick with the synthetic blend 5W-20. I like doing my own oil changes so i'm assuming this would be no different than the oil changes i did on my old 2003 silverado. Remove drain plug {engine warm}, drain, remove filter, put drain plug back on, fill new filter 3/4 of the way with new oil, hand tighten back on, add recommended amount of new oil under the hood....

Don't bother filling the filter. Just oil its gasket and spin it on. Then dump in the recommended oil + filter change amount.

is there a difference whether the filter is filled or not? Always wondered this. Someone had told me years ago to add some oil to the new filter, and have heard from others it is not needed.

Nope. It only affects the total oil amount.

As stated, the manual is online and downloadable in a PDF format. No reason to buy one, or wait for the bought one to come in.
