Default Rear pinion seat leaking - or is it?

I bought an 01 F150 a week ago. While under the truck checking things out I realized that the rear pinion seal was leaking pretty badly. I don't have time to replace the seal myself so I figured I'd have it done this week.

I decided to top off the level since it must be low from the leaks. I took out the plug and oil came out at a pretty good pace. I let it drizzle for an hour. It was clearly overfilled.

Question is - will over filling cause the pinion seal to leak? Now that I have the fluid level correct do you think the seal will still leak?

I'd appreciate input. Great forum here.
