Default Normal to feel thud during rolling stops?

2016 2.7 Eco. 2,300 mi.
If I slow to a crawl at a stop sign for example, then give it gas, it feels like there is slack for a split second, then something catches and gives a thud before engaging. Sometimes I can reproduce it when just coasting, then stepping back on the gas. It feels like there is play somewhere. Is this normal or should I have the dealer look at it. It does not seem to happen if I come to a full stop. My 15 year old Xterra did this as well, but I figured new vehicles would not have this loose/slack feeling. Thanks for your input.
