Default Non-Ford dealership mechanic shop recommendations?

All,

I have a 2012 F-150 Ecobust with 149,800 miles on it. It's got a lifter noise at start-up that does not go away.

I had a dealership in North Dallas look at it and was quoted $5,700+ to repair it, new timing chain set, tensioners, passenger side head, etc...

I need to know if anyone can recommend a shop here in Dallas-Fort Worth to work on this motor if I decide to go that route.

Thanks in advance.

Jason

I would think you could get a new crate motor for that much or a little more..

^^ agreed, at least a rebuilt one. New would be like $8k. I wouldn't spend even $2,000 for that work. Most of that is probably labor.

The quote was $2,700 in parts and $2,600 in labor plus tax...I haven't looked into rebuilt motors/crate options as I'd rather set this thing on fire. It's been a bad truck from day 1 with the CAC issues to now being the worst truck I've owned.

Sorry to hear that... there's always going to be the dud off the production line. How handy are you?

I really enjoy working on motors, but I usually stick to classic cars that have "simple" engines (SBC 350's and such). The last time I had the nerve to work on a recent ford motor was a '97 mustang cobra with the modular motor and all I can say is I didn't enjoy it!

Gotcha. Well, it CAN be done, and people here are certainly used to changing chains and sprockets, so if you decide to do it yourself, you will have support. Where are you?
