Noise in front-end of new reg cab STX
#11
Axle/Hub/Bearing issue.
I had what sounds to me like a similar noise. It was a humming/rubbing/slight grinding noise all speed dependent. It occured within 15k miles of new. I thought it was just "road noise" from the tires... except it was my front driver's side only. I would have to look at the service order but the tech said they re greased some bearing? The noise went away for awhile but sounds like it's coming back to me ~10k miles later. Similar noises, front driver's side again.
When they did the repair I asked if they should just replace the bearing or whatever they re greased, he said this was a "common" issue that Ford doesn't put enough grease into them from the factory and he has seen it quite a bit?

I have a new '15 SCREW FX4 that is making a similar sound. Took it in to the dealer for a very harsh vibration at highway speeds and also mentioned this noise. They found the source of the noise to be the driver's front wheel bearing and had to order a new one that won't be in until Monday. We will see if that fixes the problem.

Keep us posted as to whether this fixes your issue please. Does your noise start after driving for a while or immediately? Mine is definitely drivetrain but not the motor. My dealer said he "didn't want to start swapping parts on a brand new truck" so they basically told me to wait it out until it got worse. Closer, local dealer refused to even look at it. Maybe one of us can find the fix for all of us. Good luck.

Well, things did not go as planned. The dealership did not replace a bearing. They just tried to rebalance the tires. The 'whomp-womp' noise is still there. When I called them to tell them they said maybe they fixed 'the wrong sound.' Uh huh. So, this isn't going to be a quick fix. I will get it in over the next two weeks and keep trying. If I have success I will let you know! Please do the same!

Finally got this issue resolved today! They replaced the transfer case with a new one and the noise is gone. It took 6 visits total. Before all was said and done they replaced the passenger hub, caliper, rotor, pad and some type of actuator. They heard the noise and agreed something wasn't right. They didn't give up, although I've asked from day one if it could be the transfer case. They finally called in a field service engineer. He found the noise to be coming from the transfer case. They said usually Ford makes them rebuild them but the engineer authorized a total new replacement. So glad to have the resolved! This truck is finally quiet!
