transfer case grinding noise in 4wd Hi
Hi everybody,
I recently noticed a problem w/ my 4 wheel drive yesterday. everything is smooth engaging the 4wd, but when i get up to about 25mph+ i can hear a grinding noise from about the transfer case location (right center of the cab). The best way i can describe the noise as it sounds kind of like a bearing going out, or a chain drive stripping out. It's not super loud, at first i thought it was an exhaust leak, but then as i got up to about 35mph, i could definately tell it was the transfer case. When i switch back to 2WD it goes away. in 4-LO, i couldn't get going fast enough or quiet enough to hear it. Anyway, i took it to my local dealer and they just laughed and said it was normal noise and ford wouldn't touch it. I've never been in or owned a 4wd that did this. It's a 2010 screw with 5.4L and 3.55 LS. Any feedback on the issue would be appreciated. BTW, my warranty runs out next week

I took it to two dealerships and one blew me off while the other one actually investigated. They came back and said it was normal and the other trucks on the lot for a test and they did the same thing. Something about thinner material for the case housing so the chain drive sounds louder.

Good news!!!
I fixed mine myself. Yesterday i unmounted and today remount it. My problem was and probably the problem of many of us! I hope this could give a hand to someone, can i fixed a previous problem about the grinding noise about the IWE.
So my problem was the universal joint of the front dryshaft, the one who came out of the transfer case to the front 2 wheel. Only one universal was ****ed up, but my hand in i change both end of this dryshaft, Here in Ontario i pay 52$ taxe included at Autoparts extra and those one got a zert to grease it.
Anyway i am very happy so if somebody need more explication or photo i took some
