Default Need help with Automatic Transmission.

I've been noticing my transmission being slow to engage at times and lunging. When I checked the fluid level I noticed it is low. Where on the 2003 F150 with 5.4li engine do you fill the automatic transmission fluid? Do you use the transmission dipstick tube? I know where all the other fluid fills are but not that one. Thanks

Yes, add it in the dipstick. How many miles does it have and when was it last serviced?

take the dip stick and dab it on a peice of paper, if it looks brown at all, go get it flushed, it will cost 200 dollars or less, and it is worth it.

Default Service should be good.

It was flushed at 34,087 and it only has 40,800 miles on it. I no longer live in the area where it was last serviced.

Sounds like your just letting it get to low. I was just curious if you could have a problem from neglect as well. Does it leave fluid where it's parked? How often do you add?

A Ford dealership did the flush back in 06/06 and it did sit alot before I moved to NH from MD. Could the flush have caused a leak? The truck has never been offroad and never run into anything. I believe I will take it into a shop to have them check for leaks. I'll add some fluid to it tomorrow after I get it warmed up so I can check it properly while I add it.

I can't see how. Unless the lines are leaking where they disconnected them to hook up to the machine. Did they do a filter replacement? If so check the pan and the lines. Hopefully that's all it is. If not check the shaft seals for the drivetrane. If you still aren't seeing it place a large piece of cardboard under it for the night (weight it down) and see if it has any fluid on it the next day. Look at where it's wet to what it's under to see what's leaking. Hope this helps.

they could have mashed the pan seal when they put it back on, but you would see it leaking out around the pan if that was the case.

I will second the cardboard idea.
