I usually obtain labor quoates, and shop for best price for parts, but this time I was STUCK...
When the problem was finally discovered, the oil was already over full, was almost as thin as water, and smelled like gasoline. I feared that any further attempt to drive would result in burned rod bearings. Appears, that the failed injector was dumping fuel into the dead cylinder, and that this unburned fuel was draining into the oil pan.

I was just wondering and asking, if the book and/or computer would list 2.5 labor hours, for a job that actually took less than 1 hour to complete. I find this hard to believe.

Alot of shops, mine included, will not let you bring in your own part. They make money on the part as well as the labor. Also if you bring in your own part the place installing it cannot warranty it if its a bad part. I look at it like this. You don't go to McDonalds and bring in your own meat for the hamburger. Almost every time I installed customer supplied parts before we instituted the no customer parts rule here, there was a problem with the part. I lookled in our parts and labor guide. It actually calls for 2.6 hours and the injector lists for 126.10. So they were right in line with that. The labor guide is just that a guide. If they go straight by the book all the time thats fine. If you want them to be flexible, then you have to be flexible too. If the job calls for 2 hours and it takes the tech 3 you have to be willing to pay the extra. Its called a labor guide not labor fact. I work with my customers on labor time, usually. If a time in the labor guide is too low I WILL charge the time that the job takes.

Default Agreed!!!

I agree with all you say NGM.... I realize that the book is only a guide, and that the time listed , is time for an average mechanic. Since some are more competent & work much faster than others, I have no quarrel.
Just seemed, that 2.6 hours charge time, for a job that was completed in .7 hours was a little excessive.

Must be just me. I have only been turned away when I had my own parts one time and it was just recently. That was over the phone too, so I dont think that counts hehe. Ive had several shops help me out like doing it off the clock, let me help, bring my own parts etc... Granted these werent pep-boys, they were usually speed shops, off-road shops, etc. Once they see I know my **** pretty much, they dont try to rape me for cash and just realize if they **** me off I will just take a little extra time out of my day and do it myself. Warranty wise, i dont really care on the warranty from the shop since I have a part warranty from the shop I got it at. The only warranty I require it quality of workmanship. If I start driving, and vaccum lines of off or fuel is everywhere, you bet your *** I will be right back and they will be out there cleaning it and fixing it.

Anyway still glad your all repaired and ready to roll again.

Oh I must be missing something on the injector price, I just did a quick search. Granted I didnt get to the specifics on your motor, but here is a link.
