Default Lucas Oil Stabilizer

My truck runs perfectly, but has 229k miles on it. For a 2002, that's a lot. I have heard arguments in both directions about Lucas Oil Stabilizer to extend the life of your engine. What says the Ford F-150 Faithful?

Discuss.

I'm not sure about Lucas, but you may want to spend $25 and get your oil analyzed....

Lucas make some of the best oil products on the market. I ran a fleet of 100 F-150 and I put it in everyone of those trucks at one time or another with great results.

Don't put anything in the crankcase of these trucks but oil, for best reliability. Most additives are just marketing anyway. Except for adding techron in my gas maybe once or twice a year, I try to stay away from additives altogether.

^^ This. Except fer the Marvel Mystery oil.

If you use a high quality modern oil of the correct viscosity, change it regularly - there is no need for any snake-oil additive. All that does is upset the finely tuned addpacks that are already IN the oil.

Lucas products, et al, are a total waste of money and do absolutely nothing for you - except provide a placebo. And deliver huge profits to the snake-oil vendors.

Agree. But no additives to a newer engine...full syn oil, and Lucas has awesome oils. On any older high mileage absolutely use it.

Thanks to everyone's input. There wasn't a lot of technical information to be had here, which is what I was looking for more or less, but I appreciate everyone's input all the same. I have a service coming up in 1500 miles, so I have a decision to make.

Agreed. Engine oil additives throw off the chemical balance of which the oil was engineered and designed to do, especially if use a full synthetic oil designed for extended performance or drain intervals.

Run a good synthetic in the proper grade for your truck and call it good. All lucas oil stabilizer does is thicken the oil. So if you usually run a 5w20 and add lucas you will have a 30 grade. Might as well just use a high mileage 5w30 and you will have a better product.

It has a purpose, but its usually a last resort for an engine thats on its way out.

The lucas transmission fix is another story in my opinion. It actually does what it claims. I use it in anything with more than 100k miles.
