Lots of highway driving oil change
So I changed my oil may 20 since I knew I needed to and would be driving a long road trip. That being said I put roughly 3000 miles of highway driving on it since May 20. I'm around 4000 miles now since my last oil change and just was wondering if I should hold off doing an oil change at 5000 or if it would hurt me to do that. The problem is I will be putting another 1000 highway miles on my truck in about a month when I head back to Florida. I'm driving an 2012 king ranch with the 3.5 eco boost.

To me, it depends on oil type and filter brand.
With synthetic I am comfortable with 7500 miles with a Motorcraft or similar filter.
Normal oil, I feel like 5000 miles is the maximum.
Many others may feel this is overkill - better safe than sorry tho.
Oil is the lifeblood of an engine. They are expensive to repair especially when you consider a synthetic oil change and filter can be had for approximately $20 on sale.

If you'll be towing or heavily loaded for that last 1,000 mile leg, I'd change the oil just for piece of mind. Unloaded, just traveling, I wouldn't worry about it and just change it when you get there. I'm assuming you check the oil level periodically, if not, I would before the long trip.

I'd change it - but NOT with MC. The NOACK is far too high ( ASTM D5800 score ).

Use Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5w-30 instead. Wallymart has it fer under $30 a 5 quart jug either on-shelf or site-store, etc. Great oil, great add-pack, low voatility, easy to source, great price.

Thanks for the replies. I'm going unloaded but to be sure I'll prob change it anyway. It's synthetic but as was said I'd rather not play the gamble game with it.
