Locking Rear End
At 65,000 miles I had the pinion seal replaced because it was leaking. The clutches in the rear end were also shuddering. Shop filled with synthetic oil and the Ford additve as required. Now at 71000 miles the clutches are shuddering after driving around 40 or so miles on the interstate. I am really disappointed that and surprised because this truck has not had any abuse or off road driving. Does this mean that I now need to replace the clutch pack?

crush a little car today
Sounds like you need to have it rebuilt. The odd part is you put the required lube in and it reoccurs. I had trouble with my stock limited slip. I was having a new gear ratio installed so I had a detroit trutrac carrier instlled at the same time. That was the best move I made in mods along with the better shocks.

A cool thing to do is put a electrically controlled locker, Switch it off and with a conventional acting rear end you get better gas mileage, when you need the traction switch in on.

just add a bottle of friction modifier.. ... one thing that really hurts the clutch is driving with a spare tire on the rear... or uneven tires on the rear...
But if you drain and refill with a bottle or 2 of friction modifier it might help... or you could just add a bottle of the moifier...... or if you just just ignore the cattering and go with it... it wont hurt anything... but it will be like a open rear end...
