That is the recall I spoke of, didn't know they had a cut off year, I did so many of those at the dealer I could have built an entire new truck with all the scrap steel. LOL
The check valves are what go bad causing the overfill as stated, regardless of why they went bad is kind of a non issue as the only fix is to replace the pump, the check valve is integral.

Finally made it over to the Ford dealer today. They wouldn't even guess what might be wrong with it. "We'll look at it for $95 and let you know" he said. About $400 for a new pump and 4 hours labor to install it. And that's only the front tank. No recall either. I did put a new cap on the front filler pipe a couple of weeks ago and haven't had any leaks since. Maybe I'll just not use the front tank. He also said there is a external check valve. I thought the check valve was built into the pump???

Update
Things are looking up. I put a bottle of Techron in the front tank five days ago and I can see (and feel) a difference. The truck will start on the front tank now and seems to run much better on that tank than it used to. Don't think it fixed the check valve on the front pump though. Yet. At least I can use the front tank now. And, it pulls my Rhino much better than my 2.8L Bronco II did. I can actually keep up with traffic now.

Fixed!
OK, I couldn't afford the dealership fix so I took it to an independent shop and had the front fuel pump replaced. Truck starts and runs great on the front tank now. And yes, the check valve is built into the pump. Seems like everything is fixed now. Even the fuel gauges work! Also had the A/C fixed and charged just in time for the summer heat. Drove my Bronco II for 15 years with no air so I'm loving it now. Thanks for all the help guys.
