i guess i should post here since i did not get much info in the other section i posted in. heres my problem, my truck is a 00" 5.4 lariat with 64K. monday when i went out to my truck after work i tried starting it and it would not start. so i tried again and this time i gave it some gas and it ran, BUT when i took my foot off it would drop down to like 400 rpms and stay there and try running but would then die. it would stay running if i continued giving it gas. this is only the 3rd time and its all been in this month. i got it into drive and drove home, which from work is only 1 mile maybe tops. once i pulled into the drive and put it in park it stayed running. 3 days later its doing fine. i am still concerned. i was told by a master tech at ken towerys it sounds like i have either a vacuum leak or i need to replace my idle air control valve.

i would really apperciate any and all help.......thanks!

I had the same problem with my '97. I was told to take the IAC off and clean it with Barrymans B-12. Reinstalled it and never had another problem. Saved a second mortage to by another. Hope this helps.

Did you check what the master tech said to check before posting on here? IF so then what did you find?

no i havent yet. the truck has been running fine ever since it happened. i myself do not know anything about this problem. i dont even know really where the thing is. the master tech is my girlfriends moms boyfriend and he told me this last night and this happened monday. so really i havent even had time to look myself.

Have him show you where the IAC is on the side of the throttle body. Take it off and clean it.. I am willing to bet it has some crud built up in it.

where is this thing located, is it right by the intake or what.

well about 2 hours ago i took the iac valve off. for anybody wondering were its at, on 2000 5.4 and other similar yrs and models it is behind the throttlebody. it is bolted on to the throttlebody with 2 bolts and has one electrical wire coming out off it. this was my first time doing this and it was very easy to do. i did not clean it out, i was advised not to my the master tech at ken towerys i know and by the workers at napa and pepboys. i wanted to replace it with another motorcraft but of course nobody stocks motorcraft parts like that and since it was after 5pm ford was closed, so i bought mine at Napa for $75 bucks. i forgot the name of the IAC, i think it is a Elkin or something and it has nascar performance written all over the box. i also bought some throttlebody cleaner and cleaned the inside of the throttlebody where the air goes in and arond that gold thing thats in the middle what ever its called. i started the truck and it sounded and ran great. it made the truck sound more healthier if you know what i mean.

ps. the helix TBS that i had on there i removed just to see if there was any difference, in all honesty i dont think i'll put it back on, i'll just have to wait and see how it runs without it.

last several days, been dealing with truck stalling out whenever I stopped, did several searches and found results from oxygen sensor, to belt slipping, to IAC valve, all of which I replaced, all of which actually gave me limited or an afernoon of success. At the end of my wits, I stopped at a NAPPA and asked for advice, guy didnt event hesitate when he said to do a decombustioin which involved cleaning the air intake (butterfly) Thought I would ad this to site as I know alot of folks are replacing everything without complete success ad wow, for $10.00 I could have fixed it all

Decombustion? WOW, what planet is that guy from? Actually, what he is telling you is the same thing as scrowell said on 7-31-2008. Cleaning the IAC is the first non expensive procedure to follow.

Decombustion? Life is confusing enough, why make matters worse by trying to impress someone with your vocabulary!
