2009 5.4. So my truck has a little tick, and it gets much worse when I work it hard. sounds like it's going to come apart....My mechanic says I need to replace the timing chains and that there is a kit they put on it to make it a non variable valve timing, like to 03's and earlier, and it's going to be 3500 bucks? anyone else get the cam phazers fixed and what was the cost?

Nice!
Glad they are using 24 karat gold parts and diamond encrusted to.
That is an insane price.
Hope he at least gives you a reach around while screwing you.
Go get 2 more estimates is what i would do.

So Ford said to use 10w40 in an engine spec'd for 5w20. Must not matter what grade of oil you use then, or they think 5w20 is too thin.

In my old 2008 with the 5.4 i always used 5w30 in it, and when i sold her still ran like new.
