Question How Many Miles Do You have ?

Hi, I am new to the F150 Forum and just want to get some tips to stretch the life out of my 2010 F15- SuperCrew

I am currently at 29,000 Miles. My goal for this truck is to break 200,000 miles and still run like a champ. However my luck with vehicles is at best sub-par. The fursthest I have made to is 101,000 then the inner Transmission seal failed leaving a high fix price tag in its wake. I do change my motor oil every 3500 - 4000 Miles. But thats it other than keeping tires filled properly, tires when needed, and alignments. What are some tips to help reach my goal.

My Facts:
4X4. 4.6 Liter V8
Mileage 29,000 I need to go 171,000 more to reach goal.
Change Oil every 3500 - 4000 Miles
Proper tire pressure / rotations when needed.

The lowest miles on one of the 3 trucks I own is 153K. The highest is just under 300K. You have the right idea with service being the key. Oil and grease are the life of your truck so follow your owners manual for service, HOWEVER, I have always done transmission services @ 30K mile intervals, serviced the front and rear diffs @ 50K intervals and tuneups @ 75K. I'm sure other guys here will have their preferences, these are just some things that have helped my trucks stay running for years. Good luck

agreed. regular maintanance is key. since your vehicle has such low miles, i would recommend using motor flush before your oil changes. please read it's instructions fully. also, a high grade synthetic oil and filter will go al long way as far as less sludge, better heat displacement, and proper lubrication. If you use a regular air filter, change it every other oil change. I recommend the K&N brand, not just from a performance aspect, but it less maintanance than a traditional style. Like he said above, regular transmission service, rear diff service, and tune ups are essential. dont forget your fuel filter also about every 15k-ish. plus, i use a can of seafoam fuel cleaner every oil change. so far i'm at 105k miles, no issues yet on this truck.

Yup, regular maintenance...

These trucks regularly hit 200k. Some 300+ if they are well taken care of. Might need a new engine or tranny at some point...

If regular maintenance is followed, flush is ill advised. I wouldn't even use it on a neglected engine due to the fact it will cause excessive wear. How they get away with selling that crap legally is beyond comprehension.

The only time I have ever seen that stuff do any good was on a locked up engine, we used it to break loose the crank so we could remove the flywheel without having to cut the torque converter apart.

Stay the hell away from motor flush of any kind!!!!!!

I've always been afraid of stuff like Sea Foam for healthy engines. I've seen it do good for really sick engines but in my opinion, if the engine ain't broke, don't try to flush it.

Marc D Thanks for the tips. I have a question though. Where to you do your transmission services and what do you ask for?
Texan Ford - Are you using a 5W20 type Sythetic Oil?

All the guys that answered are most likely way more qualified than I am, but everyone will agree that proper maintenance, taking care of issues when they crop up and listening to the beast will add up to long life. I have 295,154 on my 97 F150, XLT, 4X4, auto trans. Original engine, trans and everything else.

I have a 2010 5.4 screw. 145673 miles so far. No tranny flush. My mechanic checks the level at each oil change.

Between 30,000-60,000 miles had the hard 1-2 down shift. It went away. Truck drives as good as it did at 1,000. I figured stuff would start to fail by now but going strong. Plugs, o2 sensors, shocks,
grease slip yoke, headlights, brake coolant power steering flush, and brakes have been done.

Best truck I've ever had. Coming from 4 banger tacos. When the tranny dies ill put a new one in.

206K on a 2000 F-150 with 4.2L V6 and a manual transmission. And still have the original clutch!

No major repairs yet except once the intake gasket developed a leak and had to be replaced. This was when it was under 100K.

Still runs great. I'll probably replace the clutch this year.

I haven't done anything special to the truck. Just regular oil changes and not driving it too hard.
