How to hook up to a positive source that is always on
I am installed a power door locks kit in my truck and need information on how to hook up to a constant power source? Could someone please give me a better explination or a site with pictures on how to do this. THanks!
These are my instructions:
Hook the positive wires to a positive source that is always on. The radio is a good source for this.

I must have messed up yesterday or whatever. You will need a test lite or voltmeter to find 12 volts hot at all times. Another way would be to go directly to the battery and using an inline fuse connect there.

Agree with Bill. The battery is always the best source for constant power. If you hook into the radio then there is a good chance that you will introduce noise (whine) into your stereo system and who wants that. If you go to the battery, the best place to go through the firewall is usually through any existing factory grommet that is already installed. Make sure not to damage any of the old wiring when running the new wires and use a good connection at the battery (such as a spade terminal or replacement connector). Make sure to use zip ties or tape to keep new wiring from rubbing up on moving or hot parts and use an in-line fuse within 6 inches of the battery post. A lesson that I learned the hard way is not to connect to the battery until everything else is wired up and secure. Trust me on this, you do not need to be fishing around with live wires inside your car!
