Truck making horrible noise in Rev.
I have a 2004 F150, when I put the truck in Reverse the truck makes a horrible noise (squeak) with each rotation of the wheel. I can not pinpoint the noise because I'm inside the truck. I do know that it sounds like it's in the rear of the truck. Does not do it when the truck is in Drive. Does anyone have any suggestions or know of this problem in F150's?

Pick them up at Napa for 20-30 each. Might as well do them both. They can be a pain to get out and press in. Had mine done at a shop thank god because they had to cut the joint to get it out. I spent $90 on labor and $45 for parts. Ford will try and charge u $89 for one

U-joints can be changed with out the aid of presses and the like. When I worked dealerships, everyone got paid by piece work or book time on warranty. Won't go there! The guy who grossed the most money was the lube man. What a tallent! He could in 15 minutes, remove the drive shaft, remove both u-joints, inspect for wear lines, hand pack the caps and reassemble the whole mess. If the joints were bad, they allowed him his own inventory at his work bench. Good snap ring pliers, vise and a 12 oz hammer and of course a very tallented jerk using the hammer. It takes me a life time and a half, but it can be done.

I would recommend jacking the truck up in the rear and try to find out where the sound is coming from by having someone under the truck and someone in the driver seat. Maybe as simple as a brake pad problem or as complex as a reverse gear problem in the tranny.
WARNING!
Be careful when going under a truck that is running and in gear.

Ujoints (UJ's) cost cost less the 20 dollars each, the Duralast UJ's are 10 dollars each. If I have to remove the drive shaft and it has the original UJ's I will replace them with UJ equipped with zert's fitting so in the future I can grease them, replacement UJ's are cheap and having a set you can stick a grease gun on and do the "out with bad in with the good" lub job pays off down the road.
