How the heck do I change oil/filter on EcoBoost?
I hit the 1k mile mark today and thought before I head back out on the road tomorrow I would grab some oil and change it for the break in period change. I drive up on the ramps (easily with the Truck Apps on dash showing me straight wheels) and dive under only to find two plates that block everything. I can see the filter from under the hood on the driver side, but it looks like I have to remove the metal plate to get to it. Is this true? My google IQ is failing me.

Why don't you just take it to the dealer and have them do it? Isn't it free as part of your warranty? Also wont it void your warranty if you do it yourself instead of a shop that will document it or the dealership?
Might want to check into that.

Admittedly it has been 10 years since I have owned a new vehicle, but I have never seen oil changes be covered as part of your normal warranty. They always fall under the consumables part, like light bulbs burning out. I have never heard of changing the oil as voiding your warranty, but again, it's been 10 years.

oil
When you buy a new Ford, the dealer will do the first oil change service free! Usually around 4-5000 miles. They will inspect the vehicle and check all fluids, tires, brakes, etc. After that its your responsibility from their on out.

Alright, I'll check back with them. Thanks folks. I will still need to figure out how the heck to get past those plates in the proper way when I need to change it myself. I smell a write up coming on.

I have a 06.. 20,000 miles out of warranty
I'm a mechanic..
I still take my truck to the dealer for the oil change......
1. They can do it for 5 bucks more than I can buy the filter and oil........
2. They do a 100 some point inspection.. in the same time It would take me to drink my first beer
3. The last thing I want to do after turning wrenches all day/week is turn wrenches
EDIT: I forgot why I was responding to this thread......
As long as your truck is under warranty I would take it to them to change the oil just for piece of mind.......
If you change the oil yourself and something happens to the engine, they may try to claim it wasn't maintained........... If you take it to the dealer, and ford tries to say the engine wasn't maintained, you can then go after the dealer...

You never know If ford puts a special break in oil or additive from the facory. This was a problem for some of the new 5.0 engines when they came out in the mustang. People were changing the oil too early and the engines started making noise. I would just wait 3000 or so miles.

If you do your own oil while having it under warranty save your receipts and document it when you did it. This way you can back it up you did it. This is what a dealership told me to do since I do my own
