Exclamation HELP!!! Gas gauge problem!

Everything was working fine. I was a a quarter of a tank of gas and 131 miles to empty. (I have a 2004) I filled up and when I turned my truck back on, the needle didn't go up. Nor did the miles till empty. By the time I got home the needle was at almost half a tank, but the miles till empty was at 130. (It is a few miles from the gas station). This morning I took the gas cap off and put it back on and checked again, but the needle and miles till empty are still the same. Can anyone help me, Please and thank you!

It sounds like the problem is with the gauge in the tank. The gauge & fuel pump are a single unit in the tank. Access to it is from the top of the tank, which means dropping the tank to get it out.. Miles to empty is calculated from the reading off the gauge.

Thank you! I appreciate your help. After I drove it about 15 to 20 miles everything slowly went back to normal. I am hoping it isn't the start of something going bad. So far, it has been fine since then.
