Unhappy Grinding noise when engaging 4x4

When I am shifting to 4H while moving I hear a grinding noise for a few seconds until it engages. After that the 4x4 works fine. When I go to disengage it can take up go 10 seconds or so before it disengages. Sometimes I have to come to a complete stop before it goes back to 2wd. This all started after I had a 6" suspension lift put on. Please help!!!
Thank you!

The lift seems to be ur prob l. Jus stop put ur truck n neutral an then engage 4x4. An reverse to go to 2wd. A pain but it avoids the grinding!

Mine does t he same thing once in a blue moon only when engaging. As far as going backto2WD I dont think it takes more than 10 seconds....Reversing back into 2WD is always a good thing to do

When your in neutral and switch back to 2 once its back in 2WD reverse about 5-10 feet. It just helps it disengage more and doesn't put as much stress on the gears in your front end

Could be the IWE solenoid problem. This part is pretty much responsible for the "grinding" and "clunking" issues. This is a problem part on the '04-'08 rigs.

My hubs would grind something horrible. Turned out the hubs themselves were grinding down to little nubs and couldn't lock in, just spin and chew themselves up. I needed new hubs and the new solenoid that stops water from getting in. If it just keeps grinding I would check the hubs and make sure they aren't too shredded to function.
