gassy smell at idle

This is probabbly not your problem but this happened to me. I bought my 2008 SCrew used. I could smell light gas fumes on test drive but I thought it was because I opened the gas cap to inspect it. About a day later it threw codes and told me to check gas cap, did this and reset codes. Kept getting gas smell occasionally and codes would pop up every other day or so. When I finally went to fill the truck with gas ( had 1/4 tank when I bought it) and it was almost full it started flowing gas onto the ground from under the truck
. Anyhow when I took it in to see what was wrong with it they found that it had a hole drilled into the top side of the tank (like to syphon gas)
. WTF! Had to put a new tank on a truck I had less than a week! No more codes or gas smell!
