FYI: Tranny Lube:
A local shop of 40 years experience I use for transmission service installs Chrysler ATF+4 in Ford transmissions. The AODE in my 94 Lincoln TC is filled with it as is my latest acquisition, a cherry 97 F150XLT/4.6L/4R70W. The transmissions perform flawlessly, smooth but positive shifts and no hint of converter clutch shudder.
I was a little concerned about compatibility issues (some "experts" claim a difference in seal composition) since Ford recommends Mercon V for its applications, but a quick search of the usage data on a bottle of Mercon V shows the fluid can be used in applications where Chrylser 3 and 4 are recommended....logic indicates a backward compatibility where Chrylser 3 and 4 can be used in applications where Mercon V is recommended.
ATF+4 is the highest quality tran fluid available (except for some specialty racing fluids) and has a service life nearly double that of Mercon V, and ATF+4 is specifically formulated to prevent clutch/band shudder.
