Foul smell in cab, also heat only blowing on drivers side, passenger side is cool air
Hi everyone, this is my first post here and I'm hoping you can help me out.
I have a 2009 F150 Lariat Supercrew. Last week I got in my truck and it smelled like there was something rotten in the truck, like a dead animal or garbage. I cleaned out my truck and sniffed around and couldn't find the source, I thought it would go away.
It hasn't gone away after 5 days. It still smells awful in there. I had thought that maybe there was mold or something somewhere because it's been very humid and we have been having a lot of rain, but I can't find any mold. So I'm not sure why it smells like a dead animal is laying in my back seat.
I was playing around with my AC to see if I could find the source of the smell, maybe it's in the vents. When I turn on the AC I can smell the odor, so I turned it off and left my windows down overnight in the garage. The next morning I got in and rolled up the windows with the AC off and the smell was still there.
I turned the heater on full blast and cranked it up to 90. When it started getting hot air I noticed that the drivers side was blowing hot, but the air in the vents on the passenger side are not, they're blowing cold air. When the heat was on the odor seemed to be gone, but that could have just been a fluke.
Any idea what's going on here? I thought maybe the heater core, but on an old f150 when my heater core went out the windows fogged up so bad I could not even see well enough to drive, but in this situation there is no fogging.
I would think the rotten smell and the lack of heat are related, but I'm really not sure, I guess it could be a coincidence.
Anyone have any idea what's going on here?

My guess would be a mouse has some how gotten into the heater duct work and died, possibly around the blend door area, and yes, they can stink for a very long time.

There are several posts on this. Yesterday I solved the smell problem in My 2010 by going to a NAPA store and buying Air conditioner and vent cleaner. It cost around $11. . The toughest part was finding the drain for the evaporator pan. It's behind the manifold on the right side of the firewall. Scott
