Default Ford transmission service

Hey all,
I have a 2012 SCREW with 35000 on the clock. Its in for a 4x4 solenoid replacement, while it was there i inquired about changing out the tranny fluid as I was feeling lazy. They said to flush the trans fluid ALL the way to the Torque converter, was gonna be $249 plus tax. Is there some new tooling or system in place that has happened while I was sleeping? I thought you just drop the pan or drain screw and replace the fluid...Please help this sleepy F150 owner with a comment or two...Maybe im not too lazy anymore..lol..Thanks..

The trans is sealed for life, never change the fluid unless the vehicle is operating under extreme conditions, and then only at 150,000 miles.

That's what the shop manual says and they don't go on to describe what defines "Extreme"

Default Ford transmission service

2007 f150

Last time my transmission was "flushed" it pushed something into the torque converter and permanently damaged it. $1000.00 replacement (ford actually covered) and it is fine now. However, next time it will be drained and refilled with new. Perhaps mine was an isolated incident. Who knows. But I will never have my transmission flushed again.

I would like to hear from techs re fluid flush as a maintenance item. My thought was to have the tranny flushed by the dealer at 60k, but if techs don't recommend that, I would like to hear from them.

At least just a *****tech's****** opinion on the tranny service would be much appreciated.

RNL, I value your opinion, and follow your comments on the board. I guess I know where you stand on the topic.

It's not where I stand, and not even from my POV as a professional auto tech, straight from Ford as seen below.

RNL, are you aware of any adverse effects from a tranny flush--either personally or from a fellow professional you trust?

None that I can recall but I've not been in the private sector for over 11 years. What I do know is with advances in metallurgy, electronic control, as well as fluid properties, it don't surprise me Ford says sealed for life.
