At 10,000 miles had Factory shaved the rotors at 20,000 they repace both pads and rotors, almost $600.00, i am at 34,000 slight squill starting. Anyone else notice short brake life. '04 Larait Supercrew. Any recommends on better brake pads AND Rotors. And Troyer Tuners hearing alot about it why is it different and better then say a hypertech or anything else????

30,000 miles, dealer just recommended new pads and possibly rotors. 2004 XLT screw. I'm looking for recommendations too.

My 04 lariat supercab has 50k on it and I just replaced the tires and the tire dealer told me that I would need brakes soon. Ilooked at them today when I had the truck up on my neighbors lift and it looked like I might need new rotors in the back but the fronts look good yet.

At 10k? Why did the rotors need turned? I changed mine out at 12 or 15K with lots of pad life left. I saved them just incase I had an issue with the aftermarket ones I put on. Now I'm at 31K and the replacements aren't anywhere near needing replaced.

well then whitey .. why dont you tell them what your aftermarket brakes are then ... they all did say that they are looking for recommendations ...

My mechanic told me that the 2wd late model f-150 brakes are made soft by Bosch to provide better brake performance and reduce dust. That's why the rotors are softer and the pads harder. This has been a known issue on German cars for years. Their brake jobs always require pads and rotors.
To make matters worse, on the 2wd fords, the ABS hub is part of the rotor, making it a $300 replacement. The mechanics suggestion is to by the 4wd which has a floating caliper like the super duty. It's only $100 to replace.

Wagner thermoquiet brakes and Wagner rotors. They are bettery than factory. The rotors are thicker to help disapate heat and not warp as easy. When you do the brake service make sure to put Anti Sieze on the back of the pads to stop the squeal. I cant remember if the edges are beveled or not if not cut a sligh bevel in them. I did my brakes @ 50k. Iam at 87 and the pads are not half gone yet.

My 97 Lariet has a 6" lift on 33" tires. This makes my brakes work harder then they were made to. My brake pedal was soft and I could smell the brakes if I had to slow down from freeway speeds in a hurry. So 2 weeks ago I installed new rotors, bearings and I used Performance Friction carbon metallic pads. First thing I noticed was the pedal was firmer then it used to be. Also when the brakes are cold you can hear a faint, almost metal grinding noise. This I was told is normal due to the material used in the pads and the fact that there is no clay "fillers" in the mixture. After about 500 miles they brakes are strong. Stops faster then it used to and I notice barely any dust on the wheels. Supposidly these pads will last longer and are easier on the rotors but only time will tell. I have also heard that the ceramic pads are not good for heavy duty use since they are made more for quietness rather then heavy duty use and will wear out fast.

I had to replace pads and rotors on my 2004 Supercrew at 44,000 miles .Right rear pads were almost gone and all 4 rotors were pitted .I could get 90,000 miles out of my F 250 with 5 spd and 4.10 gears .
