Exhaust Manifold leak
Hi all! Hate to make this my first post. . . . but I'm new here, so here goes.
I have a leak in my passenger side exhaust manifold. I'm hearing that distinct rush of air when she's cold, but when it warms up the sound goes away....as usual.
Could someone tell me how tough it is to change this manifold on an 02 Screw Lariat? I do most of my maintenance stuff myself, but leave the intricate or big jobs to the shop.... I was told last night by one of the guys at the shop that I go to that I'm looking at a $500 repair.....
Any help or point in the right direction would be much appreciated.

Not a bad job just do it on a overnight cold motor and use a quality penetrating oil and pray a stud doesn't break off in the head. Some nuts will come off, some studs will come out, and a couple will break. Plan on replacing all 8 studs and nuts.

Wifes Explorer passed California emisions with the same ex leak everytime no problems. Your leak does dimminish when engine is warmed up, doesn't it? They test the vehicles at operating temps. As I say, with mine no problem.

I had the same issue. so i took the manifold off and found the two rear stud bolts busted in the head. so i helicoiled it and slapped the manifold back on. everything worked fine for about a month then started leaking again. It turns out that the manifold had warped from the constant temperature changes. so i ended up getting some headers to replace them. all in all its not too hard to do but i recommend investing in some good ratchet wrenches.
