I have a friend with a 2008 2WD that produces an distinct and loud whine when accelerating form a stop. It sounds like the engine or transmission, but it makes the sound of bearings when they whine for grease.

Has anyone else experienced anything along these lines?

I have an 06 fx4, and have the exact same problem, but it also whines quietly when idling, Change out power steering pump, that was not it.

Thanks, it ended up that the noise was from the pulleys. Somehow they had become loose.
