Engine problems
HELP! I Have a 1992 F-150 that quit running recently. About 1/4 mile from home at a stop sign the engine died. It wasn't getting spark so I changed the ignition module. Then the distributor sensor including a new rebuilt distributor, then the coil. STILL NO SPARK! I also changed the switch on the column. I didn't want to have it towed to a 80 dollar an hour shop so I started looking and found the computer had burned up. Two wires stayed in the plug and you could smell that burned electrical smell. So I got a "new" computer and put it in and lo and behold it starts! BUT it will only idle...the second I step on the gas it stalls. I tried the MAP sensor and it didn't make any difference. Here's a weird one...if you keep the key turned all the way to start and get it going, you can step on the gas and rev the engine and tell it is running pretty darn good and the second you take the foot off the gas or let go of the key it stalls...
What do you suppose is going on? TPS sensor die and take the computer with it? Or did the computer die and take the TPS or IAC with it? It was running FINE until that stop...223,000+ miles at that sign!
