Don't do it
I suspected broken guides at 160k pulled pan and yep they were there, I put it back together It was still knocking bad . . Gathered parts for a timing gear change then did a five minute engine flush . Well it ran worse and came up right away with cam phasor codes .
So the stuff broke loose and caused more problems but I was going to do a complete replacement .
I did and I found broken guides, bad phasors , bad tensioner gaskets , number eight intake the roller guide laying to the side . The roller was wobbly and grooved . I replaced all lash adjusters, rollers and timing parts . Runs good now and quiet .
So if you want to break stuff loose and jam up your phasors as well as blow out your tensioner gaskets so that they leak more go ahead . Not to mention your lash adjusters filling with gunk . I also put a new melling 360 oil pump in her, same one jasper rebuild uses . My old one had loose factory bolts on the back side probably due to flexing of the back plate . See you tube video from Jasper . Just imagine you are breaking all that loose after the filter-- its trying to get back to the oil pan and jamming stuff up before it gets back to the filter .
I always used synthetic oil but not good filters ,now I use napa filters and I'm changing more frequently . Got to get that carbon blow by out of there early on-- no stretched interval because its good oil . No fram filters .
I believe the tensioner gaskets and oil pump caused low flow , dash oil gauge reads mid line at 5-7 pounds so you have no Idea what is really going on --more cheap engineering . Good luck

Personally, I think you are fighting a problem that may not really exist.
If you are seriously wanting to clean the internals though, you have a number of tried and true options:
1) Three or four short interval changes, like 1000 or 2000 miles.
2) Use a REASONABLE amount of Marvel Mystery oil, but go up one viscosity grade to 10w-30. The MMO will thin the oil back out to 5w-20.
3) Use a Heavy Duty oil, like Rotella T6. It has higher amounts of cleaning additives
4) Use a top line synthetic, like Mobil 1 Extended Performance, or Pennzoil Ultra Platinum. These again, have more cleaning additives.
All of the above are perfectly safe. Forget the flushes, and choose one of these. Don't stress about the previous owners maintenance. Your truck is going to be just fine.
