trans problems

Default trans problems

i work over nights at cabelas. was going out to get my lunch drove about 10 minutes so the truck was warm. went in got my lunch came out started the truck put it into reverse there was a big bang and a hard lurch. backed out put it into drive same thing. on the road it wouldnt shift out of 1st gear ifless i put it into 2nd on the colum. 3rd and fourth not there. let it sit for 6 hours got out of work and drove it to the dealer. same problems as stated before. but all of a sudden it started acting normal and shifting properly. any ideas?????? its a 2002 f150 fx4 with 65k miles

Change the filter and fluid. Then try it and if it does not solve problem you are still out the bucks. But it usually works, usually. I use to work at an automatic transmission shop some years ago. Would amaze you at the $$$ we would charge then change filter and fluid for chump change.
