2004 F150 Lariat Triton, 4 x 4

Replace left front Hub assembly, hub cost: $ 355.00 (not incl labor)

Left front hub accuator: cost: $ 174.00 (not includ'g labor)

Labor: "left front hub grinding: $ 225.00

Total $ 762 plus taxashusetts draw

Job descrip: replaced left frt hub bearing assy, and the left front hub accuator seal kit.

I can check out the parts costs, but wonder if the 3 hours of labor, which include hub grinding, sounds correct?? Is grinding usually part of this
repair??

Thanks a lot, Steve

Just looked in Chilton labor guide and it states 1.5 hrs per side.

Yes the grinding is caused by the solenoid on the firewall or the actuators locking up and or the hub

The "left front hub grinding" may have just been a note for diagnostics, and the $225 is the total labor including diagnostics. Just a thought.

Parts are high because they charge markup. ALL shops do this. Anywhere from 1.5 to 2X the retail price of the part. Most also charge in the neighborhood of $65-85/hr per labor and you will pay book time. If it says 3 hours, you'll pay 3 hours even if it only took the mechanic 1 hour.

Is it 1.5 for the Hub Assy AND the Actuator or just one of the two? Those are two different parts and you will often pay labor for both.

That's a fair bill IMO
