Do you do your own Maintenance??

You stated that the dealer mechanic did not check your
differential lubricant.
This is rather interesting in that I have heard that the
Ford dealers, and possibly dealers in other brands, do not
as a rule check the differential lubricant.
They claim that it is only necessary to check it in the event
of a visible leak or other problem.
So if there is no leakage or drippage, they will not check it.
Of course, if it is near empty or even empty they have no interest in checking it.
Has anyone else had this experience ? It is a pain to get to but armed with a 4" extension bar it can be done with minimal aggravation.
Thanks,
Ken H.

Now I never stated that I took it in to a dealer. I said I took it in. What I did was take it to a "Nationally Known" lube shop. On the receipt they give you, it clearly states all work done. ex. topped off front diff, checked rear diff, lubed 8 greese zerks, etc... . It is part of their service they offer when you come into their shop. Also known as a "21" point inspection, or whatever # they choose. When my truck was in the bay, I walk out onto the sidewalk so I can see everything they are doing under my truck, thats what ticked me off, and the reason why I just do it all myself now. Because you know if you call it to their attention they will deny ever ripping you off.

This brings up another point. How many grease Zerk fittings are on
your truck ? You mention that the shop said they greased EIGHT.
My F-150, 1997 has only TWO grease fittings.
Thses two, I might add, are very easy to grease.
Thanks,
KAH

In regard to the number of Zerk fittings, my 1997 F - 150
has only two. These are in the steering mechanism.
There are no other Zerk fittings on the vehicle, not on the
front suspension members or the drive shaft " U " joints.
