Default Changing rear axle ratio?

My truck (2013 5.0 Supercab) has a 3.31 rear gear. Which was fine until I started towing a heavier boat. I would love to step down to about a 3.73. Anyone ever done this who can tell me what would be involved and an approximate price?

I'm in Saint Louis and have been calling around. Price has ranged between $900-$1400

I have 3.31's as well and I'm probably going to 4.10's

Did you check with a dealer or local mechanics?

Yikes! It might be cheaper to get a complete rear axle from an auto salvage operation with the gear ratio you desire and just swap the entire thing in.

If your truck is a 4x4 you'll have to change the gears in the front diff to match otherwise you'll be in a heap of trouble when you switch it into 4x4.

Nope, 4X2. That would make a mess though, wouldn't it!

Do what I did, get a programmer and a custom tune, much cheaper and very effective. I have 3:31 gears as well and pulling my 16' ski boat felt like I was dragging the anchor also. Now that it's tuned, I barely notice it's back there.
