Default Changing oil viscosity?

I always see guys running 0w-20 or 10w-30 rather than the recommended 5w-20, is there an advantage on a high milage motor?

I used to use Penzoil high mileage 10w-30 which used to be good. However, recently it got really crappy so I switched to the Motorcraft synthetic 5w-20 (recommended by Ford) and it works amazingly. You can find it at Walmart in the 5qt bottle. Oreilly's also has it but costs a lil extra. Sometimes it seems like the 5w-20 disintegrates so you may want to go with a more viscous oil.

Curious, Jorge, how did you decide that Penzoil was going bad?
