Carbon Deposits
While reading Hemmings Muscle Machines(a GREAT magazine by the way), I stumbled across an article about carbon deposits and their effect on engines. Since this is a classic muscle car magazine, the vehicles discussed in this article are mainly carburated engines, but it appears that this issue wreaks havoc on fuel injected system's as well. If carbon deposits seem like something that's irrelevant to your truck or other vehicle's engine, the author points out that "Carbon is the biggest reason so many older engines are lethargic". He also points out that carbon deposits in an engine that has an intake valve that is impeded by 30CFM can result in a LOSS OF 62 HORSEPOWER ON A V-8!!! . This is a great article and tells the signs of issues of carbon deposits and how to clean your engine. I would paraphrase the article here but I know I'd just screw it up.

Also, the article talks about preventing carbon deposits for the first half of the page, it goes into how to remove the deposits near the bottom(bottom half) of the page.
