Default Burnt/ Melted dipstick? pictures included

I picked up a 2003 F-150 in immaculate condition, runs like a scolded dog. Checked my oil the other day and noticed this melted dipstick handle, appears singed or even caught on fire perhaps? no signs of the engine ever overheating, 154,000km 4.6 2v

any insight would be appreciated, The P-O could have dropped it on the manifold, but maybe something else is at play here?

Thanks for looking.

looks like rust from inside the dipstick tube.

very possible, but why or how rather, would it be melted to the plastic stick?

remember the oil in the motor gets to the same temperature (195 degrees) or hotter than the water temp. given the right conditions that can melt the plastic. I still say it looks like rust from the tube. over time moisture can collect at the top of the dip tube. once the paint goes away the metal will rust making the plastic pitted and burnt looking. I really don't see reason for concern but if you still are, have a sample of your oil taken at the next oil change and have it analyzed. it will tell you exactly what's going on in the motor.

Old Post - For future readers. The O-ring that is supposed to seal the dipstick so that it does not become a vent path to atmosphere but it needs to be replaced. Its a seal.
